Practical
As with their furniture, the Shakers developed woodenware products that were both functional and practical.
The products below illustrate the varied nature of these products and the Shakers commitment to quality
The Shaker seed box is a replica of the seed sales/distribution boxes used in late 19th century. The box is made of pine and uses box joints and steel hinges. We made a number of variants, some stained Shaker colors (blue, chrome yellow, green), some left natural. In addition, we reproduced the labels.
There are two sizes:
Large - 24” long, 9” wide, and 4 3/8” high. Price: $120
Small - 18” long, 9” wide, and 4 3/8” high. Price: $100
As seen in all Shaker Communities, the peg board provided a way to hang clothing, chairs, clocks, etc. on the walls of their community dwellings.
We make our Shaker Peg Boards out of both pine and/or hardwoods. We put a bead on both the top and bottom of the board and typically we space out the pegs every 8 inches to align with modern day house stud construction. With screws on the back of the pegs, the board attaches to the wall without using additional nails or screws.
Depending on the customer’s needs we use maple, cherry, or walnut pegs.
Price: Pine - $20 a foot, Hardwood - $25 a foot
